FoL: Brother

A knock at the door to the house that the gang shared woke them up from their weekend afternoon nap.  Ember groggily got up and answered it with an annyoyed expression on her face "Whaddya want?" she said, her voice raspy from rehearsing her song the previous night.

"Hello, I am the lawyer for one Miss..." he had to look at his clipboard for the womans name "Melissa McClain...I am looking for Melanie?"

"That's me" she stretched out and said "What about my birth mother?"

"I hate to inform you of this, but she recently passed away and wanted me to find you and give you her effects" the man explained.

"I could care less about that damn woman" Ember scoffed "she let my old man beat me and her on a daily basis.  I want nothing more to do with that woman" the rest of the gang was curious so they went to investigate "You can throw those things in the trash for all I care!"

"But they are important documents and old newspaper articles" the man said, handing her the box and quickly leaving.  He heard about this group of ruffians and what they did and didnt want to stick around this area of town.

"What's in the box?" Ace said, moving some things off the table so she can set them down.

"Who knows?" she set the box down and lifted the lid, going through some papers and found an old note saying:

Dear Melanie,
I am sorry for letting that man hurt you.
I am sorry for everything you are about to find out.
Melissa McClain

Sanford lifted an old newspaper article from the box and the headline made his heart sink into his stomach.  Artura tugged at his shorts and said "Sanford? What's wrong?" he gave the paper to her and the expression on her face dropped.  The headline read SEARCH FOR INKLEBERRY TWIN BABY GIRL CONTINUES, KIDNAPPING SUSPECTS STILL UNKNOWN BY POLICE.

Ember picked up a file and blew some dust off of it, opening the old thing and finding her birth certificate.  However, the name on it was not Melanie McClain.  It was Melanie Inkleberry.  She looked up at Sanford and said "Did you know anything about this?"

He just looked at her and said "I had no idea that I had a sister at all!"

Grubber took a look at both of them, going from one to the other.  Besides their skin tone and hair color, they were alike.  They were the same age, height almost the same bone structure (except for the obvious nose) and they both had the occasional pimple.  He noticed an envelope in Ember's hand and said "What's that?"

She opened it and said "It's a DNA test...it says that we're supposed to swab the inside of our cheeks and send it in.  It's already paid for by the lawyer so if we want to find out, we can send it..."

"Totally!" Sanford said, taking one of the Q-Tips and swabbing the inside of his mouth.  He put it in the container, and Ember swabbed her mouth and sent the two containers in the mail the next day.

One week later...

Arturo ran through the house with the manilla folder "ITS HERE! ITS HERE!" he flew himself on the door to Sanford's room, thrashing about.

Ember heard him and shouted "WHO GAVE HIM EL BEASTO?!" she swiped the folder from him and Sanford came out.  Everybody gathered in the living room, Ember's and Sanford's significant others by thier sides.

He looked at his possible sister and said "You ready?"

She gulped "As ready as I'll ever be..."

They both ripped it open and read the results "Holy Shit!" Sanford said, a big smile on his face.

"What's it say?!"

"I FOUND MY BABY SISTER!" him and Ember hugged each other for the first time as brother and sister.

"So...have your parents ever told you about a sister?" she asked him.

"Once...they said that a couple who lost their baby saw her in the window and took her for their own..." little beads of happy tears began to form in his eyes and he hugged her again.

The twin's respective significant others smiled as they watched the newly found siblings hugged each other tightly.

"Looks like they've got ALOT of catching up to do..."
